How to Make Fluffy Playdough

This might be the easiest playdough recipe ever, given it only requires the two ingredients and absolutely no cooking!

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Ensure you have everything you need before you start. You can find both ingredients at any grocery store or pharmacy. The best shaving cream to use for this recipe is foam shaving cream, not gel. We get ours form the dollar store.

Step 2: Mix the Shaving Cream and Cornstarch

  1. Combine: Add the shaving cream and corn starch to a large mixing bowl. No need to measure exactly, but the typical ratio is two parts shaving cream to one part cornstarch.
  2. Mix: Stir the ingredients together using a rubber spatula or your hands until the mixture forms a dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more corn starch. If it’s too dry, add more shaving cream.

Step 3: Add Color (Optional)

  1. Choose Your Colors: Divide the dough into smaller portions if you want to make multiple colors.
  2. Add Food Coloring: Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion.
  3. Mix Well: Knead the dough until the color is evenly distributed.

Your fluffy playdough is now ready for play! It’s malleable, soft, and perfect for sensory play. Kids can mold it, squish it, and create all sorts of shapes and figures.

How to Store Fluffy Playdough

To ensure your fluffy playdough stays soft and fresh for as long as possible, proper storage is key. Here are some tips:

  • Airtight Containers
    • Store the playdough in airtight containers such as plastic storage containers with tight-fitting lids or resealable plastic bags. This prevents air from drying it out.
  • Cool, Dry Place
    • Keep the containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause the playdough to harden or become sticky.
  • Refrigeration (Optional)
    • If you live in a particularly warm or humid climate, you might consider storing the playdough in the refrigerator. Just make sure it’s well-sealed to prevent it from absorbing moisture.
  • Regular Checks
    • Periodically check the playdough for signs of drying out. If it starts to lose its softness, you can knead in a few drops of water or a small amount of vegetable oil to restore its texture.
