How to Make Playdough in the Microwave

Follow these simple steps to create your homemade playdough:

1. Prepare the Water

  • Add hot water (as hot as your tap will go, but not boiling) to a measuring cup.
  • Pour the salt into the hot water.
  • Add food coloring and stir the mixture well for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until the salt has mostly dissolved.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate microwave-safe bowl, add the cream of tartar to the flour and mix well.

3. Combine Everything

  • Add the water and salt mixture to the flour mixture.
  • Mix thoroughly to remove any clumps of flour.

  • Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the mixture. There will be some light areas with raw dough. Stir for at least 1 minute to work everything together.
  • If you still see raw, light-colored dough after stirring for a minute, return it to the microwave in 30-second increments until it’s cooked through. Avoid overcooking, as this will make the dough tough and dry.

Making homemade playdough just got easier with our microwave playdough recipe. This no-cook method simplifies the playdough-making process, allowing you to engage your little ones in hands-on fun without the need for stovetop cooking.

Materials

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 teaspoon cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 15 drops food coloring

Tools

  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing spoon
  • Heat-resistant gloves or pot holders
  • Airtight container for storage

Instructions

Here’s a corrected version of the instructions:
