Build A Train is a simple file folder game that introduces preschoolers to basic addition and counting.
- black dot stickers
- colored rectangle stickers (name tags colored with marker)
- game pieces
- connecting cubes or legos
Using the rectangle and dots stickers, build one long train circling the file folder. Write a number of each car of the train. I wanted to focus on number zero through five, so those are the numbers on the car. The object of the game is to build the longest train. Players roll the dice and move the corresponding number, and then collect the same number of connecting cubes to add to their train. The game ends when each player reaches the end of the train. The player with the longest train made of connecting cubes wins the game.
My students love this game because it is train themed. I love this game because it is a fun and easy way to help students learn number identification and one to one correspondence counting skills.
